When I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2011, I had no idea how much it was going to impact my life. In the last 5 years God has transformed my life from a 19-year-old college sophomore studying English (as well as a newly diagnosed chronic illness and what in the world gluten was) to a practicing nutrition professional ready to help change the world. 

Fast forward to 2017 and here I sit ready and prepared to help save you the time it took me to learn how to properly heal my gut, balance my biochemistry, and feel better than ever.

If you’re still reading, and interested, here’s a little more about my personal life:

I live, tucked away, in the mountains of West Virginia with my dashingly handsome husband, Justin. Together we opened our gym, SmithFit Training,  in 2014. At SmithFit, we pride ourselves on being led by the Spirit and sculpted by science. Justin is the creme de la creme of personal trainers and we love nothing more than combining our services to create an ideal overall wellness program, individually tailored, for our clientele.

When we’re not at the gym, we’re probably thrifting, antiquing, watching a VHS tape on our couch, or playing with our dogs. Our simplified, often described as “weird”, life is so wonderful! It allows us to pour our time, energy, and money into better helping those around us.

Although we’re at SmithFit (or our favorite local, farm-to-table restaurant located across the parking lot from our gym, Bridge Cafe and Bistro) so often they feel like home, the Smith Family Homestead is truly where our hearts reside. There, we live alongside my amazing in-laws who have built the property from the ground up, our truly, free-range chickens, horses, and six dogs. Yes, I said six dogs 🙂 Of all shapes, sizes, and personalities! Penny is my babygirl, though. She’s furry, feisty, and hilarious. My life would feel a little empty without her.

Finally, here’s a small list of random facts about me:

  • GT’s gingeraide kombucha is my all-time favorite
  • I met Justin while working at a corporate health food store in 2012. We married after only 7 months of dating!
  • At age 9, I wanted to be a librarian when I grew up and at 10 I discovered a deep love for writing (I may not be a librarian, but I do hold a Bachelor’s degree in English Lit)
  • I started lifting weights when I was 18 and still enjoy challenging my strength to this day
  • I still write all my notes and musings in cursive font, not print.
